What could be nicer than relaxing in a wellness hotel after an active day in nature or when the weather is bad?

In recent years, one or two weekend trips have taken me to a wellness hotel. Wellness and spa hotels not only provide a tailor-made environment for relaxation, but they also offer the perfect alternative program when the weather isn’t playing along.

Are you looking for ideas and tips on where to relax and unwind? Perfect – that’s exactly why I’ve put together this list of what I think are the most beautiful wellness hotels in Switzerland. From summer wellness hotels on the lake to the perfect spa hotel for a relaxing wellness weekend, you’ll find a wealth of inspiration in the following lines.

The 10 best wellness hotels in Switzerland

1. A wellness weekend at the Grand Hotel Quellenhof in Bad Ragaz

As a world-class health resort, Bad Ragaz cannot be left out of this list. And if you are looking for an excellent wellness hotel in Bad Ragaz, you will find it at the Grand Hotel Quellenhof. The hotel is part of the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz and was completely renovated in 2019.

It is located right next to the Tamina Therme and is one of the best wellbeing and medical health hotels in Europe. And “wellbeing” is undoubtedly a top priority here. In addition to bathing in the thermal water and spa treatments, you can also indulge in culinary delights. There are two Michelin-starred restaurants to discover in the Grand Resort: “IGNIV” and “Memories”.

And anyone who wants to earn the whole “wellbeing” will find the right tips for activities around Bad Ragaz in our blog article. Prices and availability for the Grand Hotel Quellenhof can be found here (partner link).

2. 24-hour pampering program in the best wellness hotel in Central Switzerland

The most famous wellness hotel in Central Switzerland? No, more likely in the whole of Switzerland. We’re talking about the luxurious Bürgenstock Resort. I was a bit skeptical for a long time (also in terms of the prices): Is it worth it?

My conclusion after my wellness weekend in Bürgenstock: Yes, it’s worth it. The combination of the phenomenal location, the included services and the extensive wellness area ensure a well-deserved place on this list.

If you want, you can pamper yourself 24 hours a day at Bürgenstock and enjoy the incredible view of Lake Lucerne. In addition to the wellness offer, the resort has no fewer than 7 restaurants and the hotel is also a good starting point for other activities (thanks to the free shuttle boat to Lucerne).

3. Kempinski Palace Engelberg – Wellness in the Swiss mountains

The Kempinski Palace Engelberg is a sublime example of luxury and elegance, located in the heart of the Swiss Alps. In the midst of the impressive mountain scenery of central Switzerland, this 5-star hotel is an oasis of peace and relaxation. The spa area in particular, located high up in the new building, offers an incomparable view of the surrounding Alpine panorama. When swimming in the 15-meter-long infinity pool, you feel as if you are bathing in the mountains themselves. This sensual experience is further intensified by the warm water of the integrated whirlpool.

But it’s not just the wellness area, the entire hotel reflects the close connection to nature and the mountains – from the historic architecture to the lovingly designed interior. For me, the Kempinski Palace Engelberg is more than just a hotel; it’s a place where you can unwind and at the same time fully enjoy the power and beauty of the Swiss Alps.

4. Relax in the Kurhaus Cademario in the sunny part of Switzerland

When you hear Ticino, you probably think first and foremost of good weather and higher temperatures – but not necessarily of a relaxing weekend in a wellness hotel. To those, all I can say is: then you have never been to the Kurhaus Cademario.

The spa area of the Kurhaus offers amenities such as a bio sauna, a hammam and a salt tepidarium. My personal highlight was definitely the outdoor pool with a view of Lake Lugano.

In general, the Kurhaus Cademario scores points with its wonderful views. It doesn’t seem to matter where you are in the hotel – the magnificent panorama of the lake and the surrounding mountains awaits you everywhere.

You can find out more about the wellness hotel in the blog post about the Kurhaus Cademario. Prices and availability can be found here (partner link).

5. Hotel Bellevue Adelboden: Beautiful wellness hotel in the Bernese Oberland

There are several wellness hotels in Adelboden that could be considered for a place on this list. I hesitated for a long time between The Cambrian and the Parkhotel Bellevue. Admittedly, I can recommend both hotels.

But because only one of the two should be in the spotlight on this list, I chose the Parkhotel Bellevue. Despite its long history (guests have been staying here since the beginning of the 20th century), the hotel impresses with its youthful freshness. I was particularly impressed by the skilfully furnished, spacious rooms during our visit.

And the Parkhotel Bellevue has nothing to hide when it comes to wellness and cuisine. The hotel also has a great wellness area with a garden pavilion, an outdoor sauna and an outdoor saltwater pool with a particularly beautiful view of the Engstligen Falls. We couldn’t complain about the cuisine either, which has been awarded 14 Gault Millau points – quite the opposite.

6. The wellness hotel on the lake: Hotel Eden Roc Lago Maggiore

Wellness with a beach feeling in Switzerland? This is possible at the Hotel Eden Roc. Thanks to the extensive gardens with private beach (!), two outdoor pools, various lounge areas and cozy retreats, you almost feel like you are on the Mediterranean.

The combination of a dream location, spa offerings, stylishly furnished rooms and excellent food make the wellness hotel on the lake an absolute summer tip.

There is another plus point for the sustainability of the Hotel Eden Roc Lago Maggiore. As part of the Tschuggen Hotel Group, the hotel has been operating in a climate-neutral manner since 2018 and based on a collaboration with myclimate since 2019.

The Eden Roc has various room categories to choose from. The current prices can be found here (partner link).

7. Ski and wellness holidays at Chasa Montana Samnaun

Let’s be honest: what could be better than relaxing in the sauna or steam bath after a day on the slopes? The Relais & Château Chasa Montana Hotel & Spa is a charming 4-star superior hotel that is one of the best addresses in the valley and is a ski and wellness hotel in one.

The spa area at Chasa Montana includes 7 different saunas and steam baths, an outdoor saltwater pool with a fantastic view of the mountains and a bright sports pool with a whirlpool. Who needs après-ski?

And because you want to recharge your batteries for the next day on the slopes, a good restaurant is a must. At Chasa Montana, guests can expect four restaurants – including “La Miranda”, which has been awarded a Michelin star and 16 Gault Millau points.

8. The alpine base with all amenities – the Chedi Andermatt

Another hotel where wellness and spa can be combined with activities such as hiking or skiing is the Chedi Andermatt.

I have been there twice now and can say: The Chedi Andermatt is highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy special accommodation with all the amenities that come with it.

The hotel is an ideal starting point for hikes or for skiing in winter. And if you want to be pampered after a day in the mountains, you will get your money’s worth in the spa and wellness area as well as in the restaurants.

9. Bad Horn Hotel & Spa – Spa directly on the lake

The Bad Horn Hotel & Spa, picturesquely situated on the shores of Lake Constance, is an oasis of relaxation and recreation. Located in the middle of the triangle between Arbon, Rorschach and St. Gallen, the hotel offers direct access to the refreshing Lake Constance – ideal for guests who appreciate the cool water outside of the hotel’s own wellness area. The hotel’s 1,500 m² Smaragd Spa extends over two floors and impresses with a sauna area, salt thermal baths and private spa suites. A special highlight are the “portholes” of the sauna area, through which you can watch the fish swimming past, depending on the water level. The upper floor houses an indoor pool that is directly connected to an outdoor whirlpool and a jetty on Lake Constance. Even if the water temperatures of the lake can be refreshing at certain times of the year, they still invite you to take an invigorating swim. Here, the best of wellness and nature are combined to create an unforgettable experience.

10. Cheap wellness hotel in Laax: wellnessHostel3000

The wellnessHostel3000 in Laax, a new member of the Swiss Youth Hostels, offers a modern and relaxed stay. It was built on the site of the Laax indoor swimming pool, which was in need of renovation, and the municipality of Laax decided to combine the indoor pool with the new construction of a youth hostel. The design is modern, with large panoramic windows and a logical room layout. The rooms offer great views, and the wellness area, with its size of 850 m², even surpasses some 5-star hotels.

Additionally, the attached restaurant Biblau offers a variety of dishes and snacks. It is highly recommended for a winter stay, as there are also various winter activities that can be done near the hostel, from easy walks around Lake Laax to winter hikes such as Trin Mulin – Il Spir – Flims through the Flims forest, Bargis circular trail, and the Naraus – Runcahöhe – Flims panoramic trail.
