Munich – The weather forecast for the weekend did not promise anything good: six to seven degrees, cloudy and sometimes drizzle. With these prospects, you would prefer to hide somewhere warm. But grey, wet and cold weather also offers the opportunity to do something nice for yourself. The AZ has therefore collected wellness tips for pampering:

Get warm: Sauna in the Müllersches Volksbad or the Dantebad

If the cold is bothersome, you can warm up in one of the many saunas in and around Munich. For example, in one of the most beautiful baths in the city: the Müllersches Volksbad with its Art Nouveau ambience. In the sauna area there is a Roman-Irish sweat bath with warm and hot air rooms at different temperatures. The Finnish sauna reaches 90 degrees. But even those who prefer it not quite so warm will find what they are looking for: the steam bath is heated to 34 degrees. For 22 euros you can spend four hours in the sauna, and the evening ticket from 7.45 p.m. costs 16.50 euros. The price includes use of the swimming pool.

In the Dantebad you can also take a four-hour sauna for 22 euros, or you can use the winter warm outdoor pool (entrance fee 9.90 euros).

Just a few kilometers outside the city, the Phönixbad in Ottobrunn offers an extensive wellness area. You can sweat in ten saunas and steam baths on a total of 5,000 square meters. Each has its own ambience, from rustic wooden huts to tunnels with sandstone walls illuminated from the inside. Four hours on the weekend cost 32 euros. If you want, you can also book various massages.

Diverse massages: Aroma oil and back massage in various Munich studios

You don’t always have several hours to relax in the sauna. Soothing massages, on the other hand, can be had for as little as half an hour. There are countless studios in the city that offer a wide variety of massage types, from classic back massages to hot stone and aroma oil massages.

In the Asian-inspired Sai Spa in Haidhausen, for example, a half-hour back massage costs 35 euros, and for 69 euros you can get, among other things, a one-hour aroma massage. A variety of massages can also be booked at Aiyasha on Perusastrasse. A Thai herbal massage, which uses warm, fragrant herbal stamps, costs around 145 euros.

Breathe salt air: Salt caves in Munich for deeper and better breathing

A day at the sea can work wonders. This is due, among other things, to the high salt concentration in the air, which is good for the respiratory system. The only problem is that it’s a bit far from Munich to the sea, at least for a spontaneous weekend trip. But salt caves can offer a little compensation.

In the salt ambience in Giesing you sit in a kind of grotto, the air is full of minerals, which is good for the respiratory system.

These are rooms with the floor, walls and ceiling completely covered with salt and are reminiscent of small, cozy caves. Valuable minerals from the salt accumulate in the air and are absorbed by taking deep breaths. For 45 minutes, visitors can make themselves comfortable on loungers, the lights are dimmed and relaxing music plays in the background.

You can experience such a break, for example, at Salzambiente near Kolumbusplatz or you can go to the Salud salt cave at Stiftsbogen. Both offer 45-minute sessions for 15 euros each.

Floating weightlessly: Floating as a new trend against muscle tension

The beneficial properties of salt are also used in floating. The slightly warmed water in the tubs has an extremely high salt content, which means you float almost weightlessly on the surface. This is supposed to relieve muscle tension and reduce stress.

When floating, the water has such a high salt content that you literally float on the water. That's relaxing.

At Float & Spa in Schwabing you can choose whether you want to float in absolute silence or with meditative music, in total darkness, in dim light or under a starry sky. 60 minutes of weightlessness starts at 109 euros, and you can also book massages as an option. A combination package starts at 162 euros.

Freezing in winter? If you prepare yourself, you can enjoy the season without shivering.

Day spa with complete package: Relax for a day with massages and body treatments

If you want to completely switch off and escape from everyday life for a few hours, so-called day spas are the place for you. Many establishments in the city offer a variety of packages, usually consisting of massages and body treatments such as peelings.

At the Infinity Hotel in Unterschleißheim, the packages are inspired by different parts of the world: the Polynesian ritual for 139 euros is intended to beautify the skin with a peeling made from sugar and coconut powder, followed by a Lomi Lomi massage. The treatments can also be selected individually, and bookings of 99 euros or more also include free entry to the hotel’s spa area with pool, sauna and steam bath.

Wellness in the Turkish bathing tradition is available at the Mathilden Hamam not far from Sendlinger Tor. Here, for example, you can get a massage under a cloud of foam for 125 euros, and the price includes entry to the Turkish bath. Other packages even combine several massages.
